Saturday yard work

Kerry decided to tackle our bushes that line the side of our house on our property this past Saturday. They've been neglected for years. And only get pruned once or twice a year. They really needed some extra attention this time because two of the bushes looked like they were choking. There wasn't the new growth that some of the bushes already had.

First, he cut the bushes along the sidewalk using the electric trimmer. We had a neighbor lady complain a few times that she has a hard time walking down the sidewalk with her poodle. And has asked us to trim it a few times. I know, the nerve of some people. As you can see from the picture, the heat of the 50 degree sun messed with his perception of straight lines.

The kids got in on the action and helped load up five large, black, plastic yard bags with branches and dried leaves that had accumulated over the years. Even Jaynee helped.

It's always a good feeling to see your kids work hard to achieve something and to be able to do it without fighting is always a bonus.

This is the only before picture I could find of what the bushes looked like before they were trimmed. Obviously it was taken in the winter, but you can see the difference between the two pictures and how much was actually removed.

We've really enjoyed how these bushes have grown over the years and that they've really added some extra privacy to our backyard. Back in February we hung a birder feeder for the many birds that have perched on it's branches. It's been fun for the kids to look out the window and see them eat from it. We also have a few neighborhood cats that have taken their afternoon naps in the shade of these bushes. I'm sure they appreciate all of Kerry's hard work. He sure did put alot of effort into them.
