6th grade Band Concert

I feel like I'm a little behind on my posts lately.

Kaylee, since entering 6th grade this past 2007-2008 school year, decided to play an instrument in band. She started out her school year playing the clarinet, but after the Christmas holiday she returned to school wanting to play the trumpet. Since then that has been her instrument of choice. The clarinet and trumpet have the same notes, so it was easy for her to switch over. She has really enjoyed it. Both she and her friend Kennedy play it and from what I hear they were the only two girls who played the trumpet in their class.

A few weeks ago, Kaylee had her end-of-year band concert. Here she is performing... behind her friend.
This is her band teacher, Mr. Schmidt. He is such an amazing teacher and truly loves what he does. He's very talented, funny and has a contagious attitude towards music. I think this teacher has influenced Kaylee in so many ways. She truly likes him! She will have the opportunity to have him next year in 7th grade as her teacher again.

Kaylee was chosen by Mr. Schmidt to stand in front of the whole audience that night to "preface" a song they were about to play. She did very well and didn't seem nervous at all. Can you see her there at the microphone??

This is not the best picture because I was too far away, but these trombone players were so funny. They played some fun, peppy music as they swayed their instruments back and forth. They were so brave to get up there in front of everyone and do what they did. We were very impressed! We look forward to many more band concerts as she grows and learns new things with her trumpet. Way to go, Kaylee...you did great!

Man, I haven't peaked in on your blog in a little while. There was a lot to keep up on! That is really cool about your new job and the opportunities it brings you. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to make me breakfast for Mother's Day! Looks like fun!

Tell Kaylee congratulations for being such a proficient "trumpet-ist"! That's great that she is exploring different areas of the instruments. We may find her in the Southwest Symphony someday!
