The BEST job in the world!

I just wanted to let everyone know, that after 12+ years of being a Mom, I have finally gone back to work. A few weeks ago, I was hired on at the St. George Temple as part of their custodial staff. Yes, I'm a cleaning lady! But a cleaning lady for the house of our Lord. And I must admit I would rather clean this house than my own house any day. Now why is that? Ummm... But for those of you who are wondering if I get paid....yes, I do! Very well for a part time job I might add. The hours have been an adjustment for me, but I feel like I'm doing pretty good considering. I work Monday thru Friday from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am. Yes, those are my hours. See the reason for the adjustment? Even though I'm losing a little sleep, the best part of my job is that I still get to be a stay-at-home Mom during the day. And I will still always be there for my kids and still do what I need to do here at home. Basically nothing will change in that aspect. So I feel very blessed to be a part of the group of people who care for His house on a daily basis.

I look forward to getting dressed in my white scrubs and driving up to the Temple at night. And knowing I'm going inside to feel the Spirit and the peacefulness it holds when there's no one around. I'm lucky to work with my really close friend, Julie and another friend, Val, who both live in my ward. And a old friend, Gaylene who's been working there for 13 years.

I've had the opportunity to see some areas of the Temple that most people don't get to see when they go. Places that are sacred and holy and places that are old and in the original condition it was when the Temple was built. I truly have a better respect for this building and the sacrifices that were made for it. And I also have come to know, that I have so much to learn about those things that go on behind it's doors.

The St. George Temple is rated a "1" on the cleaning scale. And there are only 5 temples from all over the world who hold that rating. The Lord expects His house to be a house of order and that it is. We look for every detail imaginable and then some. We scrub in places you wouldn't think about maybe in your own home. We vacuum every room without leaving any vacuum lines behind. Because the Temple is cleaned daily, we only use 6 or 7 simple and mild cleansers. A anti-bacterial spray, vinegar, rubbing alcohol, Ajax, a toilet cleaner, furniture polish and a carpet spot remover. Not each one is used in every room obviously, but each one gets used in some part of the Temple. Makes you wonder if we cleaned each aspect of our house every day if we would need to those harsh abrasives and cleaners out in the market nowadays???

Also some Temples will take volunteers to help with the cleaning at night. St George is one of them. We take volunteers from 10:00 - 11:30pm Tuesday thru Friday nights. If any of you are interested in coming to help, just let the front desk know when you arrive. They will direct you from there. For those of you who live near a Temple should check to see if they offer a volunteer program as well.

To go to a place where you feel the Spirit on a daily basis, get paid for it, work with close friends and STILL get to stay home with your kids...I would definately say I have the BEST JOB in the world.

I would love to be able to work in the temple. When Mom told me about Julie Babcock getting a job there she told me that I should do it too. It's perfect to be able to be home during the day and work at night.

Daniel wants to know where the other four temples are that have earned the #1 rating, and whether or not you have to wear white while you work...? :) ~Leslie

wow, what a great job! So do you get a nap during the day? I've heard some cool stories about temple workers who see spirits and such. Is it kinda creepy sometimes?

I am very glad you are working there with me. I would try to tell people how wonderful of a job it was but all they could say was "I need my sleep." If only they knew! But you know now! You are a good worker too! I'm so glad that you are benefiting from all aspects of the job. I have to admit, it is much more fun having you there!

P.S. Am I totally blind, but I didn't see this post until right now. I've only been on your blog...like a hundred times! Eeek!
