Last Monday, Jaynee took a little spill in Kason's room...of all places! She was "surfing" on top of a folded pile of laundry when it caved from under her. She, as you can guess, fell and landed first on her elbow. It took the brunt of her weight and she ended up with a really sore arm. She cried and cried so hard! A mother knows her childs cry and when it doesn't sound like a regular cry then you automatically know there's something more wrong. I began to worry that it might be broken because she wouldn't move it and when I touched it, she cried even more. Plus, the crying didn't end until she went to bed. I still wasn't sure if we should take her to the doctor and since it was after-hours for most physicians, we decided to wait it out and see how she felt the next morning. I gave her some Ibuprofen and Kerry gave her a blessing to help her get through the night. (Note: I later discovered that the local Insta-care was open till 9:00 pm that night. If I had known that, we would have been more apt to taking her to see a doctor earlier.)
She woke up with the elbow area swollen and I started to worry more that there may be more to this injury. I decided to keep her home from school the next morning (which made her cry more) to protect her from it being bumped or hurt more while she was at school. That afternoon, I took her to the Insta-care to be checked out. They took x-rays and because they couldn't see anything wrong with her bones, they diagnosed her with a sprain. They gave her a sling to put her arm in and sent us home.
This past Monday morning, I made an appointment to see the Orthopaedic doctor on Wednesday. Jaynee and I showed up only to have waited for an 1 hr. and 10 mins. before seeing the doctor. This was my grouchy daughter tired of waiting. Can't blame her I had had it too! The office was a little warm and I was running on very little sleep. I wanted to take a nap myself!
The doctor finally made his appearance, looked at her x-rays, had her move and bend her arm in a few different positions and told me, "if I were you and she was my daughter, I would just keep the splint on for another week and she'll be fine." "Feel free to take it off at night if she wants, but other than that she'll be alright." "Okay?" "Thanks for coming in and we'll see ya." Oh my GOSH! He was in the exam office for no more than 3 minutes with her. I about died! And it cost me a $30 co-pay. What a miserable afternoon! Although, I should make it clear that I'm glad to know I didn't have to pay for a cast and that she'll be alright was a huge relief. It really was! So she's just pluggin' along and trying not to get too annoyed with the splint as she still has about 4 more days to go. I believe we will have more "accidents" in our future with this free-spirited daughter of our's. I just hope it's nothing too serious!

Ahhhhh...poor Jaynee. :(
Riley is exactly like her when it comes to accidents. So sorry to say, it doesn't get better. LOL. At any given time Riley can show you at least five various bumps, bruises or scratches on his body. Just hope that she doesn't end up with as many scars as he has... :)
Love ya all,
Leslie
Poor Jaynee. That had to hurt. How come kids can get injured so easy...instead of teaching them to look both ways crossing the street, we should teach them to not balance on some folded clothes!
She looks so upset in that second picture, it doesn't even look like the same little girl! I am glad that she will be okay. And on the bright side, at least she doesn't have to have that crazy-loud saw cut off a cast!
We haven't had any major accidents or injuries in our house (knock on wood). But I do know what it feels like to have a child in pain and there is little that can be done about it; it stinks.
Poor girl. And Dr.'s offices are NOT fun. What a nightmare. I'm glad she's ok though and there isn't anything too serious. She needs to be careful. If I were to guess, I would say Kason is accident prone. Seriously I can think of four major things that have happened to him.
I'm glad she's doing better and I'm glad nurse Char was there to help! :) Isn't she the greatest!! ...I may be a little biased! Hope all is well soon!
My poor Jaynee.......I am glad she is okay. I can't tell you how many times I have heard that the instacare misread x-rays. That simply won't do with Jaynee, do they not know who they are messing with............:) Give her a kiss for me. xxx ooo
We went through a similair scenario with Jackson. He broke his collar bone back in May. The instacare didn't mis read his xray, but told us in a week he could take of the sling. The pediatrician later told me in no uncertain terms take him out of the sling until at least 2 weeks had passed, maybe three. He was doing pretty good at 2 weeks, so we took it off.
I really hesitate to visit instacare anymore. I'm glad jaynee is ok.
