Our Halloween

"Halloween, Halloween
spookiest day
I've ever seen!"

That's a line to a song Kason came home singing one day after school when he was in 1st grade. It's sung in a deep, monster-like voice. It has always stayed in my mind over the years and has been sung here in our home every year since then at Halloween.

I decided that I better hurry and hop on the band-wagon and get posting my Halloween pictures since many of my family and friends have already done so.

We started off our week with some fun Halloween goodies: ghoulish green cupcakes, and frosted sugar cookies. Yum!

Wednesday night we carved pumpkins. Normally I don't let my kids carve pumpkins because I'm too cheap to buy two sets of pumpkins: one for Halloween and one for Thanksgiving. I know, I guess I'm not a very nice mom. Our weather here allows our pumpkins to last for a long time as long as they are not cut into. I like to make them last till the end of November. BUT, this year I found some pretty good deals on them and decided that my kids are getting older and can handle carving them by themselves. So I purchased those cheap carving knives (which worked very good, by the way) and I let them go at it. They printed stencils from the internet and traced the pattern onto the pumpkins. Of course, Jaynee needed a little help, but they all did a wonderful job on their own!

Okay, I think I'll quit being such a stickler from now on and purchase pumpkins to carve in the future. Especially when they turn out like this...it's just....
On Halloween morning we woke up to this beautiful sunrise that had shades of pink, orange, yellow and lavendar colors. We were surprised to see such stunning scenery!
Later that morning, my elementary kids participated in their annual Halloween school parade. The kids came to school this year dressed in their costumes and paraded around the track to show off their costumes for their parents. Here's Kason hamming it up!
And Jaynee, the "good" witch for now....
We had the best weather again this year, with temperatures in the upper 70's, it made for the perfect evening to trick-or-treat.
My good witch turned mean by the evening...
Don't you just love her teeth? She really wanted her face painted like a real witch too and I couldn't resist buying her the witchy teeth. She was a really good sport about it. But she decided that she didn't want to go door to door with them and left them home. We completely understood!

Here's Kason, our skeleton biker dude...looking pretty mean and deathly!

Finally, our Kaylee as a 60's hippie girl. In the last year or so, we've seen a wave of retro things coming back into style. Kids nowadays are finding a lot of that retro stuff groovy! Although, Kaylee doesn't wear the glasses or the headband on a regular basis, but she and her friends are really into "PEACE" and the peace sign and symbol. So this costume was partly fitting for her. She looked really cute!

We enjoy Halloween every year. Kerry suggested we recycle costumes this time around and see if we could prevent having to spend money. Kaylee's costume was the only major purchase this year, Kason was the same thing as last year and we only bought him the bandana. Jaynee used Kaylee's old witch costume from when she was that age. We only bought the make-up and teeth. So all in all we need pretty good with what we had. And everyone was happy!

We hope your Halloween was a fun one, and if you haven't posted your pictures on your blog...get to it...I want to see some cute, little ghouls!

The kids look awesome! I hear ya on recycling costumes...I sold all of the kid's old costumes on eBay, then I bought Kennedy's for .99 plus shipping and got Reg's hat for 3.51 and free shipping. Gotta love eBay!! I just had Reagan wear her skirt and found the shirt on clearance (1.97), then I got the hair color at walmart for $1.

Your kids look great! I just love the mean/nice witch...some days I wonder which little girls I will meet in my house.

Your treats always look so yummy. Baked foods are my weakness.

Very cute, Julie! For some reason, Halloween just seemed extra fun this year...maybe it was the Friday thing...or maybe the great weather! Anyway, it sounds like yours was just as fun. Your kids looked darling!

You captured the moments wonderfully! (great photos) Love the costumes. Those witch teeth take the cake though. Too funny.
